WAR WITHOUT END PYRAMID LEAGUE
Your mission, if you choose to accept it…
The objective of the league is to learn how to play your army, get your army painted, learn what it takes to be competitive and fight your way to the top of the heap, defend it and earn the title of Supreme Commander.
League Specifics
• 4+ tiers plus the gene pool
• Fight your way to the top
• Successfully defend the top spot three times and you win
Advancement
All players begin in the “gene pool”
To get out of the gene pool you must challenge a player from the gene pool. The winning player receives a challenge token. The challenge token can be used to challenge a player in the tier immediately above yours. If you win you take their place and they are knocked down a tier. If they win they receive your challenge token and are eligible to challenge a player in a tier above them.
The top position must successfully defend the top spot for three challenges in a row. All three challenges can not be from the same player. Once the top player has done this he is declared Supreme Overlord, Right Hand of the Emperor, Avatar Superior, Shas ‘El, or whatever title you choose that may be displayed, in addition to this your specific uber army is retired from the league with due pomp and ceremony.
To hold a position in the tiers you must have an army of the point value indicated below. So, to challenge the next tier up you must also meet that army point value requirement as well.
Tier Standards
Tier 1 - 2000 points, 100% painted and based
Tier 2 - 1850 points, 100% painted
Tier 3 - 1500 points, 50%painted
Tier 4 - 1000 points, un-painted
Gene pool - 750 points, mostly glued together, primer would be cool
Note: These are minimums.
If you are challenged by a player in the tier below you and you refuse the challenge, or do not have the required models painted/based, this counts as a loss. Both players switch places as if the game had been played. Refusing a challenge is not the same as scheduling a game for a later date to accommodate both players’ schedules.
You must have enough points for the next tier to challenge since you must be able to field that many points. You and your opponent may agree to fight challenges at a higher point value as long as both agree.
Lateral Challenges: If the challenge board is not full, players may challenge another player on their tier in order to get a challenge token. The challenged player may decline with no penalty.
Army Lists
Units not allowed army lists include:
Any units/character that require opponent’s approval
Lords of War
Lists must be battle forged, at any point value.
Players are required to have all references used by their army. These include but are not limited to Warhammer 40K rulebook, the appropriate codex or codices (e.g. Space Wolf codex and Champions of Fenris), Dataslates, Formations articles, approved articles from White Dwarf and Imperial Armor (Forge World). If you include permitted allies you also need the reference material for them.
WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get
There is no proxying. You must field the appropriate model. No “This Rhino is actually a Land Raider Crusader” nor “No those aren’t Space Marines, those are actually all Carnifexes.” Models that are WIP are allowed in the lower point games that do not require fully painted. Exception will be made for “sniggling” differences like this power sword is really a chainsword, but the model needs to be pretty close, the heavy flamer is not a missile launcher, In these cases modeling is encouraged.
The bigger you are the harder you fall
If the top dog, ruler of the universe loses a battle he falls into the gene pool. This is to keeps the top 3 spots from rotating among 3 people.
Challenging
Anyone in the gene pool may challenge anyone else in the gene pool at any time. The person being challenged does not have to accept. The winner of this challenge receives a challenge token.
Any player with a challenge token may challenge any player in the tier above at any time. The player who is challenged must accept the challenge; with one exception-if they currently have a challenge token they are immune to challenges for one week after receiving the challenge token. In the event of a tie neither party changes position on the board and the challenge token is lost. If the challenge was for the top position on the board and the result was a tie the challenger still loses his token, but the game does not count as a win or a loss for the person in the top position.
Notes
All positions on the board have must be defended at least once every month (No camping). If a player doesn’t fight a battle for 4 weeks they drop to a lower tier. The exception to this rule is the top spot. Since a player in this spot can only be challenged (and not challenge) he is subject to the whims of others. If the second tier is too fearful to challenge that army for the month the cowards will be dropped a level or to the next lowest open spot. This could result in dropping all the way to the gene pool. So get out there and start busting heads. A player may never have more than one challenge token at a time.
Challenge and Game Play Format
Pre Battle Phase:
1) Issue/accept challenge and set date and time
2) Agree on point value if other than standard challenge values (this must be at least the amount of points for the tier you are on, but can be more, note the painting requirements still apply.
Battle Phase:
Determine mission, missions can be any mission the players agree to that is made for 7th edition, or is modified prior to the game and agreed upon by both players
2) Set up terrain. Terrain should be set up by mutual consent. This is generally done by the group before the games day begins
3) Roll for deployment zone, if the mission requires.
4) Deploy forces as per mission
5) Play the game
6) Determine winner using mission rules for determining the winner
Post Battle Phase:
Record and report results, on our Facebook group, in person or a text message
Non-Static Lists: All Players Gene Pool and above may change their list from game to game. The lists must all adhere to the rules above for making lists, (paint requirements etc). -The top tier position may not change the list he (or she) used to achieve that spot, the army lists used in the challenge for the top position must be used to defend the top position.
-Tiers 2-4 may make changes to their list to their list at any time.
Winner
Winning this is going to take a long time, as of right now we have no prize support, if that changes we will let everyone know. If the winner is interested I will paint one HQ infantry model for the winner if he(or she) so chooses, I am not by any means a competition painter, but If the winner wants one I’d be willing to do that.
